Grants coordinated through Innovative Farmers of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Development Office of Energy Efficiency; and the USDA SARE program for the North Central Region helped with partial funding to develop the facilities and to support activities.

Construction began Dec 15, 2004 on the Bio-Integrated Greenhouse.  Designed to be an off-the-grid bio-shelter to grow plants, fish, herbs, worms (for composting), and duck eggs.  Powered by renewable energy sources -- including a wind turbine, solar electric and solar thermal collectors.

The building shell using pole barn construction with concrete pillars was up by mid-January, 2005.

Muddy conditions during winter construction Jan 2005.  Note concrete pillars to prevent any ground contact of untreated wood pillars.  Front wall is a poured insulated concrete foam with R-30  insulation value.  It also provides support for wood truss span.
